Lifelong resident of Spokane passed into eternity after a short battle with liver disease. Vern was the first child of Dave and LaVonne Boggs. He was raised on the north side of Spokane attending J.J. Browne elementary, Glover Junior High, and graduating from Shadle Park in 1978. Shortly after graduating from school, Vern met the love of his life Kathy Tremblay, they married in 1979 and recently celebrated their 43rd anniversary. Vern worked many jobs throughout his life. paper boy for the Spokesman Review, pot-setter at Kaiser, a computer specialist at Inland NW Dairies, school bus driver, and transportation director. Even as a caretaker at Manito Park’s Japanese Garden, there was one occupation he held particularly dear. Vern was a square dance caller. He started dancing at the age of nine and calling by the time he turned thirteen. Teaching dance at elementary schools in Spokane from age sixteen. Vern and Kathy dedicated much of their lives to the activity. He taught literally hundreds of people how to dance, bringing joy and fun to all. Dancers throughout the region considered Vern a fun, energetic choreographic wizard. His efforts toward the activity were instrumental in the construction of the North Spokane Dance Center and in bringing the National Square Dance Convention to Spokane in 2012. Vern and Kathy were inducted into the Spokane Area Square Dance Hall of Fame in 2006 and were presented with the prestigious Almon F. Parker Award for their contributions to square and round dancing in the state of Washington. Vern is preceded to heaven by his parents Dave and LaVonne, and by his son Timothy. He is survived by his wife Kathy Boggs, daughter Mindy Boggs, sister Laura and James Hammond of Deer Park, sister Deanna Bren of Potlatch, brother Dave and Sharon Boggs of Desert Aire, and many nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life will be held at the North Spokane Dance Center, on September 8th at 2:00 pm, hosted by the Model T Squares.
