December 18, 1948 - October 13, 2022
Terrence “Terry” Raymond Shanahan was born in Chicago on December 18, 1948, to Thomas and Connie Shanahan. Raised as a devout Catholic in the San Fernando valley outside of Los Angeles, he followed his older brother to study at the seminary in Carthage, Missouri, and then followed his brother to Seattle University. Terry fell in love with Washington State which brought him to Spokane where he found his home and life’s passion. He achieved Master Craftsman status as a furniture refinisher with his keen eye for color, quality, and high standards. His work at Shanahan & Sons was of renown throughout the Pacific Northwest. A lifelong sports fan, Terry took great joy (and sorrow) in every Seahawk’s down, every Mariners’ pitch, and every moment in every sport his kids and grandkids ever played. To know Terry, was to love Terry. The roots of his family were more of an orchard than a single tree. He had a lot of love to give, and he gave it freely, honestly, and with a sense of humor that made everyone feel just that much better. When meeting someone for the first time, he had the unique ability to close the gap between “acquaintance” and “friend” in the blink of an eye and that just made people love him even more. After retirement, Terry traveled the globe with his wife, the love of his life, Gina. He enjoyed being a host, playing games, and camping with his family. He remained active in the Church his whole life and enjoyed freedom exploring the two-lane highways on his Harley-Davidson or in his Cadillac, with the top down. Terry passed gently in the early hours of October 13, 2022 in the arms of his wife Gina and holding the hands of his children, Donovan, Brendan, Peter, Maile, Ethan. He leaves a huge hole in the hearts of his sister Maureen, brother Tom and his grandchildren, Kaiah, Bailey, Sydney, Ben, Keilana, Levai, AJ, Finnian, McLure, Rori, Morrison, Wyatt, Hana, and Marlo, and many scores of other family and friends.
