August 22, 1946 - June 02, 2014
BROOKS, Steven W. August 22nd, 1946 to June 2nd, 2014 Steve was born and raised in Spokane and graduated W. Valley High School in 1966. He went on to proudly serve in the Army in Korea as an MP K-9 patrol on the DMZ. After returning to the U.S. he met and married Dody Strom in Buffalo New York and they moved to Spokane for his college after the Army. He graduated from EWU and went on to work for the State of WA in the Safety Dept. at Eastern State Hospital and then as a Safety compliance inspector throughout Eastern Washington. He remained in this work until his retirement in 2010. He was very active in the VFW and American Legion serving on the Honor Guard and working as a volunteer. After his retirement he was able to spend more time with friends and family. His love of electronics and strategy games brought the circle of friends into an international level. Steve's outgoing and easy manner brought him in contact with a great number of people and his visits to the many coffee shops and stands were a big part of his day. Steve was greeted in Heaven by his father and mother Jess and Jo Brooks. He is survived by his sister Valerie of OR; Steve's children Jody, husband Jim; son John and wife Angie of OR and daughter Stefanie and husband Blake of WA. His 7 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren will miss Grandpa Steve and Pop very much. Service will be held at the National Veterans Cemetery near Medical Lake on June 30th at 2:15. Steve had a great respect for the benefit of dogs for security so the family is asking for memorial donations to be made to the local K-9 units, the City unit will be in Steve's name (Steven W. Brooks) at any WSECU branch. The county K-9 donations can be made by contacting Lt. Sherar at the Spokane County Sheriffs' office.
