November 14, 1981 - February 19, 2022
Matthew Everett Best 11/14/1981-2/19/22 After 40 years of living life to the fullest and marching to the beat of his own drum, the good Lord has called Matt home. Matt was a joyful son, brother, nephew, uncle, grandson, gaming nerd, and a ferocious drummer. Like a storybook ending, Matt passed at his favorite place on Earth on February 19th in Priest Lake, Idaho while fishing. After graduating from North Central High School in 2000, Matt played with several punk bands and was a goofy, yet loyal addition to various restaurant kitchens in Spokane. Chances are pretty good that at some point, he had a hand in preparing a meal (or two) for you over the years whether you were aware of it or not. He also enjoyed making custom leather belts and bracelets, collecting gems and minerals, and cheering for the Seattle Mariners. A self-proclaimed “dog whisperer,” Matt’s love for animals was a direct reflection of the love he had for his family and friends. His laughter still echoes for many of us. He leaves behind parents Jack and Cindy Best, sister and brother-in-law Sheena and Matty Smith along with niece and nephew Ciri and Mason, grandparents Elizabeth Welchly and Everett and Helen Best, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, March 5th, 11:00am at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Spokane, Washington. The family asks that in lieu of flowers to please consider making a charitable donation to either the Bonner County Sheriff’s Office Volunteer Search and Rescue department or to the Spokane Humane Society.
