We are truly blessed when someone comes into our life and creates the inspiration to help us be a better person. Mary Thorne is that type of person. Mary quietly took on many hard things in life raising her 5 children as a working single mother. She worked for over four decades in pediatrics and later in the intensive care pediatrics ward at Sacred Heart Hospital, a job that would break many to pieces, yet she was there to be strong for countless families during traumatic times.
Her love for her family is legendary. When there were holiday meals it always took three trips to unload the trunk of her car. Grandkids were always spoiled as a matter of practice sitting at the cutting board counter in her kitchen eating Ice Cream and watching TV. Mary's reputation for the world's best Cinnamon Rolls, Christmas Cookies and other delectable treats are now imitated by her grandchildren who work hard to try and match her perfection. Mary loved to spend time in her garden and touring her yard to show off all her flowers (a trait now followed by her daughters). Mary was also an artist, she loved to sew, paint, and arrange her home grown flowers. She loved to share whatever she made. Quilts, afghans, dolls, jams, cookies, and her plants, she always had plenty to share.
Mary's strength of character, poise in times of hardship, and her unfailing love for her family and friends will continue to influence generations. Mary is at peace now from the ravages of Alzheimer's, Yet even as that disease progressed she amazed her community with her strength and perseverance. Rest now Mary, you have earned it.
