John Victor Boes

October 15, 1943 - August 25, 2015

John V. Boes ended his short battle with cancer on August 25, 2015. John was born October 15, 1943 in Emporia, Kansas. He and his brother were adopted by Fred and Agnes Boes. He graduated from Olpe High School in 1961, farmed for a year and then joined the U.S. Navy. It was while he was stationed in Washington D.C. he met Gail Tabor who became his wife on February 11, 1966. After they were discharged from the Navy they spent a year in Olpe, KS farming and then moved to Spokane in 1969. John was a student at SCC where he started his career in electronics. He worked for Key Tronic and Monaco and several other electronic firms. He taught electronics at SCC for 2 years, sharing his love for all things related to electronics. He retired in 2005. After retirement, He and Gail continued to travel and finished up all 50 states. The final state, Hawaii, was finished in November of 2014. They also were able to check off the bucket list: Ireland, Wales, Scotland and Germany and a couple of others. - John was very active in the Lions Club. Always available to help with projects to better his fellow man. He was the recipient of the Melvin Jones award and the Jim Wilson Award. He assisted in setting up Block Watched in Spokane County. He is survived by his wife Gail of 49 1/2 years; sister-in law; many nieces and nephews; and a couple of special boys who adopted him in their youth, Scott Thurlow and Brad Wolvington, and watched them grow in to men. - There will be a Celebration of Life September 9th @ 4:30 PM at the Hillyard Community Center at 4001 N. Cook, Spokane, WA. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Horizon Hospice, 123 W. Cascade way, Spokane, WA 99208; Spokane Hillyard Lions Club, P.O. Box 6049 Spokane, WA 99217 or a charity of your choice. - There will be a service in Baker City, Oregon at a later time. Final resting place to be Mt. Hope Cemetery in Baker City.
