John Alfred Waines

June 19, 1919 - January 06, 2013

WAINES, John A. ""Jack"" (Age 93) Passed away peacefully at his daughter's home in Spokane on January 6, 2013. He was born June 19, 1919 in Shelby, Ohio. John moved his family to Spokane in 1952 through a transfer with Westinghouse Corporation. During his years with Westinghouse he was Service Man of the Year several years running. He took an early retirement from Westinghouse and moved to Hawaii with his wife Maxine; living there for seven years managing a large condominium in Waikiki. Then, being very adventurous souls, they moved to Sequim, WA (15 years) for the fishing, crabbing, clamming, and gorgeous view of Vancouver Island and San Juan Straits from their living room. They did a lot of things that other people would only dream of doing then spent their final years in Spokane. John was a character, to say the least. He was very witty, funny and personable. We will always have our childhood memories of the limericks he recited and the silly songs he sang. Maxine sang in the Manito Methodist Choir and in her senior year of high school was Ohio State Xylophone Champion. John flew missions over Japan during World War II as a Flight Engineer on a B-29. He was very proud of his service to his country. In 2006 he lost his wife, Maxine Schrantz, after 64 years of marriage. They are survived by their four children, Cherie Johnsen, Kay Cress and Brad Waines (Spokane) and Tamara May (Metalline), seven grandchildren, Erik Johnsen, Christine Richter, Shelly Kruger, Melody Roy, Nicole and Kevin Waines, Paige May and five great-grandchildren, Travis Killmer, Mattison Richter, Tori Johnsen, Logan and Carson Kruger.
